Valerian
The roots of the valerian plant have been used as medicine for over two thousand years. Ancient Greek and Roman doctors left behind descriptions of it. With delicate white flowers, the valerian plant has most commonly been used to treat anxiety and insomnia. The plant grows wild in Europe, Asia, and North America. Valerian is thought to increase levels of GABA, a chemical with calming effects in the body. Valerian can be taken as a tincture, a capsule, or in tea. It is one of nature’s many offerings to help us ease back into ourselves.
